Hello and welcome to my site. When I started this restoration I decided that it may be a good idea to keep a journal of sorts to be able to look back through this process and to see the highs, the lows, and how it all came together when this long journey is done. Being a college student with no garage, few tools, low cash, and even less of any mechanical ability or training, I decided this site should be more than just a simple journal that will serve only as memorabilia. Instead, this site is going to include every single restoration chore I do to this car, with color pictures and step-by-step notes on the processes that each chore requires. Throughout this entire process, I am being blessed with information by those who have blazed the trails that I now tread. So I believe it is my duty that while I am learning, to pass on my gained knowledge to make the restoration path easier for those that will come after me. These chore breakdowns will be contained in the ‘Restoration Guides‘ section – though it may be lacking with information in the early parts of this restoration, as I progress through my restoration this section could become one of the most valuable resources for 2nd generation Firebird restoration basics on the internet (lofty goals indeed). Also, if you see an error, have a question, or want to give me a suggestion, don’t hesitate post up a comment on one of the entries or email me: n_twister [at] yahoo [dot] com. Please be sure to put something obvious regarding this site in the subject line or I may miss it as this account is one that I use to collect a lot of spam.
A little about my ideology:
For some people, restoration is bringing a car back to factory stock, going to such lengths as to make sure it is all numbers matching down to the spark plug wires; I am not one of those people. For me, if I want to restore a car, I take a relatively high production car for that make and model and bring a car back to closely resemble stock look, but carry options I would have ordered it with had I of had the chance to purchase the car when it was new (as I wasn’t born at the time). I also wish to fix things I feel were ‘mistakes’ the factory made when building the car, an example of this is the discontinuation of the Pontiac 400 in 1980 Firebird models. Along with this I also want to boost up the performance in all aspects of driving, but mainly in the area of drag racing, in hopes to capture the essence of what the Pontiac designers would have loved to do to this car without worrying about company or external pressure to keep it restrained. That is what I call a high performance restoration and hope to accomplish once I have finished this car.
