Disillusionment

5 09 2007

Today is a day that will live in infamy…

NASCAR has just had its own version of Pearl Harbor: Joe Gibbs Racing with drivers Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Busch have signed on to drive with Toyota beginning in 2008. As you know, I am a big Tony Stewart fan. As you also know, I am a big supporter of American muscle and automobiles. Now, hopefully, you can see the problem. I am in a state of shock and disillusionment and I don’t know what will snap me out of it. It was hard enough when Tony Stewart went from racing my favorite American brand – Pontiac – to racing Chevy, but at least that was still General Motors; but now going to a non-American manufacturer? I don’t care if the move will help him win every other cup title from now until he retires, I cannot and will not support a foreign brand in an American motor sport.

It’s *MY* Fault!

21 11 2005

This one is my fault. Sorry I have been gone so long, but there has been nothing to really report and therefore I have been kind of quiet. In fact there is really nothing new to report in terms of my car, which is making me grow in frustration everyday that I haven’t seen my car ( it’s been awhile ). There is nothing I can do really as I have to make sure I get good grades, as they are as important as ever, and I think this semester may be my best one yet. I will be working on the car ASAP, but ASAP is looking more and more like after finals sometime – if the weather is good enough. It’s even more frustrating because – to be perfectly honest – I have no freaking clue what I am doing, don’t have the tools to do it even if I knew how, and don’t have a garage or anyplace to jack the car up even if I had the tools and the knowledge. What I need is to find a gear head student like me, with access to at least a place to work and some more knowledge than what I have, yet this still eludes me. Though Shelley and I could be an excellent team, right now we are the blind leading the blind, without a walking stick, in the middle of the woods. Trust me I am frustrated (it is my favorite word in this entry), and I really want to do something, but it just seems like nothing will ever get done. I did get the Autometer gauges, and have installed all but one of them, but I haven’t hooked them up yet. This is mainly because I can’t get under the car in order to hook up the transmission-mounted speedometer cable, which prevents me from seeing my speed, which the cops claim is rather important. I need to get some grommets for the firewall to rerun some wires and the drive gears for calibration of the speedometer. I really need to get out there and do some work and quit whining about it, but this school has really kept me down. Screw up the car or not, I need to get out there. I just really wish I could have access to more of the big 3 ( knowledge, tools, working location ). Hopefully this will be a warm winter break, and I will be able to get out there and work on my car.

Some small non-car related notes: We found a stray cat by our front door, very thin, but healthy and kind, so we took him in and now he is Shelley’s Apartment cat. His name is Tony and he is a male orange tabby cat. Also, Tony Stewart who is arguably the best driver in the world ( personal I feel it is true ), has won his second NASCAR Championship in 3 years. He is also the first driver to win the championship under the old format and the new format. Go Tony Stewart Go!

Incoming… Income

1 06 2005

Good news. A job interview which I thought I completely blew, I actually got, and it pays well… and very well when you consider all the crappy minimum wage jobs most college student’s are forced to take. Even better than it paying well, is that it is a government job heavily involved with my major – so this could also be a foot in the door situation here. What all this boils down to is obvious – money for the car. This comes at a very good time as I am just pulling out of the stupid funk I was in that would not allow me to really get excited about the car, so with any luck parts – and therefore progress – should be starting to get going again. A couple other things of note – my roommate, his girlfriend, parents, my girlfriend, and me are all going to go Texas Motor Speedway for the inaugural ‘Dickies 500′ Nextel Cup NASCAR Race. This race is happening on November 6th, and is part of the ‘Chase for the championship.’ I am not sure which race it is out of the ten (I think around 7th or 8th), so Tony Stewart should already be well on his way to championship #2 and Bobby Labonte will be runner up. Also, I am restarting to pick up a sport – golf – so I am dusting off the clubs, and teaching my girlfriend to play so someone new can whip me around the course. With any luck I can figure out my swing faults (Shelley recorded my swings with my digital camera, so I have been hard at work analyzing just what’s wrong. Sorry for there not being an overabundance of new stuff regarding Valarie, but until the first few paychecks come in I wont be able to get any new parts ordered, so that means no progress currently, but a very promising future.

Speed = Money … how fast do you want to spend?
